Well, it happens to the best of us…we outgrow clothes, homes, office space, even friendships at times. And, somehow we manage to figure out the best way to deal with the situation. But, sometimes we find that we’ve outgrown our CREATIVE space that we’ve put our dreams in, and we just have to think…well, “outside the cage”!!
It happens…sometimes we have been storing up ideas, dreams, and inspiration, and we find we haven’t really allowed those dreams to fully explode to their full potential. Maybe we’ve been keeping them in our safe place, not sharing them…not letting the world see all that we are truly capable of. Maybe we’ve been sharing some of them, holding others close to our heart…waiting for the perfect time to breathe LIFE into them. As 2012 began, I felt such a nudge in my heart and soul to just spread my wings even farther, push myself to do those things that I had only been dreaming of, be determined to make them FLY! John {my sweet hubby} and I have business meetings for my business…oh, yes we do! We schedule a time…I even get a spot on his busy calendar {yep, that hour is all about me!}, and he listens, we brainstorm, I let my heart spill out. We take notes, he offers advice, suggestions…I listen, absorb his thoughts. And, I walk away from those hours with a renewed sense of “Oh, yes I can!”. I feel rejuvenated, excited, a little nervous {in a good way}, and full of determination.
I’ve had this cute ‘n sassy chick and birdcage sketched out for a few months now, and a few weeks ago I decided I needed to breathe color into it…bring it to life. I had a few of my thoughts in mind that I might use to go along with the sketch, but it was while I was working on the piece that this new phrase came to me so loudly. I just remember saying, “Oh, goodness, her tail feathers are stickin’ out!”. And, I just laughed…giggled…out loud!! Yep, right there in my studio, all by myself! I loved it because it just fit so perfectly. I’m taking the Hello Soul, Hello Business course being taught by Beth Nicholls and Kelly Rae Roberts, and it is truly encouraging me to remember that I can make my dreams a reality. Above, when I mentioned my thoughts for my business at the beginning of the year, I didn’t know I was going to be taking this course. I read about it a few times and felt such a calling to take it. But, I didn’t sign up right away; I kept thinking about it though. And, late one night I went back to the information, and I said, “Yes, I am going to do this! I absolutely have to! What was I waiting for?!!”. I loved how it came to me so urgently that time that I reviewed the description of the course again…there was no doubt in my mind…it was just a given. I have long followed Kelly Rae and love her story of how she found her true calling as an artist…she was a social worker, too! 🙂 {You probably remember me telling you that I was.} And, I when I found Beth Nicholls and her work…well, I found such inspiration in her, as well.
I love that I just so happened to draw this bird big enough so that her tail feathers are sticking out of the cage…it speaks volumes! How many times have we tried to quieten our dreams because we thought they could not ever possibly come true? How often have we tried to detour from the path we truly felt called to walk? How many times have we said, “Oh, that can’t possibly happen or work out.”? There are so many levels that this simple phrase can refer to. For me, it reminds me to DREAM BIG…it tells me to not put limitations on those dreams…but, rather, let them go, share them with the world, and look forward to the JOY I will feel when they take off. It encourages me to remember that sometimes we have already put life into our passions and dreams, and they have grown…so much that it is time to truly set them free. For me, the cage door is flung open~
So, I encourage you…sit, swing, and sing inside that pretty cage…
But, listen to your heart
And, when those dreams need more room so they can really grow…
Just know that it’s ok to let them FLY!
{And, I’m gonna guess it is gong to be one of the most amazing and beautiful flights you have ever embarked upon!}
*This new piece will be in the shoppe soon…as wall art, a pendant, and a few other options! The belt buckle is now available!*
