Have you ever thought about how much time we spend anticipating things?  It may be sweet anticipation as we look forward to an exciting event or special day, or it could be anticipation that is filled with dread as we are concerned or anxious about something in the days ahead.  Either way, sometimes the anticipation can really get the best of us, as it can often feel overwhelming.  I think it’s safe to say that anticipation can sometimes be filled with expectations, as well.  Taking inventory of just what it is we are anticipating or expecting might be a good thing…just so we remember to keep our eyes where they need to be and not jump ahead.

As my sweet hubby’s birthday approached, I kept thinking of ways I could make it really special for him.  I thought about making his favorite meal, getting reservations at one of his favorite restaurants, or planning an outing that he would be sure to enjoy.  I thought about how he might enjoy each idea I had…which one he would like the best…and, then, I decided to do what I knew he would love ~ nothing specific.  Here my mind was running away with ideas, anticipating what would be the best birthday surprise for him, and all of a sudden it “hit me”…just go with the flow.  There is not much better than a relaxing, fun day beachside, and I knew that is just what he would love!  *Yes, a dragonfly landed on John’s shoulder {and, stayed there…I had to finally pull him off!}…why, I thought that was simply awesome…considering it was his birthday and all!!  🙂

I think this is a spectacular celebration…God did all the planning for me!  The day was beautiful…water like glass and a fall breeze in the air.  And, a sunset picnic was the perfect ending to a special day!

Sometimes such beautiful things and moments come from just letting go of the anticipation, the expectations.
Just focusing on “being in the moment” rather than losing sight of it by looking ahead.

The ones that take my breath away…again and again.

And, you know what I always say…just when I think it cannot possibly get any more beautiful…
the sun moves a bit, the clouds shift…
and, once again, I am mesmerized by God’s creativity and ability to remind me to just let go a little more often {ok, a lot}.  🙂

Hope this finds you enjoying the fall!  This is my favorite time of year here at the beach…well, one of them!  I’m pretty smitten with this place all the time!
