Since my shoulder problem did not seem to want to go away on its own I decided I might as well keep the appointment I made with the ortho doctor. So, today I saw him. I knew he would be the best one to help me with this issue since he specializes in problems with the shoulder and elbow. They took x-rays, and then, he spent time with me deciding on the best course of action. I cannot say enough good things about this doctor, Dr. Sameer Nagda. He was the one I saw last year with my hand injury. After seeing him, he referred me over to the hand specialist in their group, Dr. Jeffrey Lovallo…and, he was simply amazing, as well. The Anderson Clinic ROCKS!! Isn't it nice to go to a doctor that acts like you are his only concern in the world while you are with him/her? Yet again, I feel blessed to have found another good doctor.
So, I got the "green slip"…yep, that's right…orders to head to PT (physical therapy). I was secretly hoping he would give me a list of exercises and instructions to do at home but realize that this will be a much better approach. I am sure going to PT will help me to focus more on what I need to do to prevent more problems and to help keep this issue at bay. Needless to say, I have spent too much time at the computer in the wrong position and have not focused enough on sitting correctly, taking breaks, and such. I think I will just classify myself as one "knotted noodle" at this point! haha Well, that's what I have been feeling like. And, I'm thinking I might feel like that a bit longer once I start PT.

Going to PT will be a new adventure for me…I have been on the other side…actually doing PT with others and instructing them, as I used to work in the PT department of a hospital early in college. At that time, I thought I would major in physical therapy. I did enjoy working in that department and of course, liked seeing patients gain strength and overcome obstacles that once seemed questionable. So, I am thinking good thoughts about this and am actually looking forward to having a little help in knowing how to take better care of myself.
My doctor did encourage me to look closely at my setup…the height of my desk, my keyboard location, the position of my arm as I use the mouse. These were all things I had been focusing on since the pain became worse so I had already been trying to figure out how I could create a better working environment. John's chair seems to be working out good so trying it out was a good suggestion. I needed to raise the height of my monitor, and I can tell this will make a big difference so I am not straining my neck as much. Goodness, it's the little things, but when it comes to spending lots of time in a particular place…well, the little things add up to something BIG!!
My first visit will be on Tuesday so I'll let you know how it goes. Now, if I don't like some of the things they suggest…well, I am prepared to say "patient refused"!! haha Just kidding!
I encourage you to check out your work environment…take notice of all the little things that might be creating some strain on your neck, shoulders, back, or arms. As this "knotted noodle" begins to unravel (in a good way) she'll share any tips and suggestions that might help you fight the battles of stress and tension! :) Here's to losing the knots and finding some happy muscles!
