A Special Day to Remember our Mothers

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

This is one of the most special days of the year…Mother's Day…a day to reflect on the many blessings my mom adds to my life each day!  As we girls get older, we often joke about how we are beginning to sound like our moms.  Although I don't yet have children, I do hope that I will possess many of the qualities as a mother one day that my mom does.  I  hope my children will one day look at me as I look at her.  And, I hope I will have children that will feel as though their life is richer because of the special friendship we share. I am blessed to FEEL  all of these things today!  I am so blessed to know that I can pick up the phone at any given time and visit with my mom, share the details of my day with her, ask for her advice, enjoy the friendship that we share, and to always know that she loves me beyond measure…with a love that is real…and true…and unconditional.  I think the "mother/daughter" relationship is such a treasure!  Each day I appreciate her more…I realize more about the sacrifices she has made for our family throughout the years, always thinking of others, always wanting to make things "just right", making sure I am always a part of all that they are doing although I am miles away.   She keeps us all connected and makes sure we all know what is going on with each other.  She helps us to hold things together when it may feel as though they are falling apart.  We laugh about how I can call, chat with her, and before you know it, whatever might have been concerning me in the moments before our call seems to have faded.  She has a way about her…a way of making me smile, a way of calming me, a way that let's me know just how big and real her faith is…her faith in me…her faith in God.  I always say that I hope my faith will continue to grow and become stronger through each of life's experiences…just as hers has done.

FAITH…MOTHER

I like how these two words go together.  There are so many angles of how I can see that they match up perfectly!  I have always loved that phrase about how becoming a mother is like going through life with your heart walking around outside of your body.  Mothers give so much of themselves, and I am so thankful for all the many things my mom has given me and shared with me.

To my mother…

Thank you for making my life richer….thank you for being such a special mom and friend!  Thank you for listening and being here for me as I experience life's blessings, ups and downs, and continue to grow in my faith.  I have such special memories of our times together and look forward to sharing more of life's blessings with you!

Digging in the dirt and learning how to plant my own little garden

Letting me make scrambled eggs in my little pink nightgown as I stood on a chair so I could "REACH"

Helping me to REACH  for my dreams, teaching me to recognize them, and encouraging me to discover my strength so that I may do so

Making sugar cookies and eating more dough than the actual cookies (well, at least that's what I wanted to do!)

Teaching me to love all the "little things in life" and remembering that God is the creator of all these sweet details

Showing me your love for all things pretty…picking flowers, hiding them behind my back, and surprising you with your very own, handpicked, fresh bouquet

Teaching me that the elderly have so much to share and helping my love for them to develop at such an early age…taking baby dolls to the nursing home and loving every minute of it

Letting me cry and "get it all out"…knowing just what to say to somehow always make things better

Always waking up even before I was by your side in the middle of the night

Showing me how to have faith and to see the glass as "half full" rather than "half empty"

Modeling what it means to be a REAL mom, loving her family, being so thankful for her children, truly being interested in all that we are doing, and helping us to be all that we can

There are soooo many more moments and fun times that we have shared, but these are just a few of our special times together.  I was so blessed to have you and granny help me to realize my dream of opening the tea room.  We shared lots of laughs, memories, and a few "hurried moments"….and, I wouldn't have missed any of it!  We often heard ladies say they didn't think they could work with their mother or daughter.  What a blessing we had the opportunity to share such an experience!  Again, you've always encouraged my dreams and still do, and I appreciate and love you more than I can say!  You truly make my life richer!!  (**And, you definitely make John's life a little easier…for all those times you listen…well, it's his saving grace!) haha

I love you lots!!

I also have another special mom in my life…John's mother…my mother-in-law.  Mary Sue, thank you for being such a wonderful mother to John and for being such a special friend (and, "mom") to me, too.  We always have such fun chatting on the phone, catching up, and sharing all the details of life with each other.  I feel so blessed to have you in my life…to share such a special friendship with you and to know that you are always just a "phone call away", too.  Thank you for loving us unconditionally and encouraging and supporting us through all we do.  I love you!

I hope all of you enjoy this special day!  Happy Mother's Day!!
